Occasionally we are required to restore (or bring back from the dead) an original feature of a property or building.

A Porch in need of some tender loving care, at first glance there is not too much wrong with it.

On closer inspection however extensive
rot and more than a couple of extremely dubious repairs
Once timber, materials and special
equipment has been ordered work can begin.

After
establishing that none of the support timbers were worth saving they were
removed and replaced in sequence ensuring the roof (which was in good
condition) was properly supported at all times, the new supports were located
on steel pins set into the concrete.

Inserting the sections of handrail also
in sequence, as unlike the original the new sections were mortised into the
supports for extra strength and stability.

Once all the vertical supports and handrails were located and fixed
into position the more decorative pieces were fitted.

Arches, replacement tongue & groove
ceiling boards. Grain plugging filling & finishing the only thing left was painting.

Finally we have
the satisfaction of a job well done and a very happy & satisfied customer.
