ANIMATION

For as long as I can remember animation has fascinated me. When I was a small child I would sit and watch cartoons in awe of the moving drawings. One of the first things I ever remember wanting to learn was how the drawings were made to move, were I a better artist I suspect I might have pursued a career in the animation industry.

When I got my first computer it became apparent to me that it was now within my reach to make animations and whilst I am not the cleverest of animators, I have found many uses for what small talent I have.

I am a carpenter and on occasion I have been asked to design items for clients.

Whilst a detailed plan can contain all the specific information involved in the construction, a simple animated sequence can give a much better idea of how the finished product will look

Along with clear visual information on how a finished project will look an animation can also provide understanding of how a project will be achieved and some of the construction techniques used.

A clear understanding of the process involved in the construction of the project is often very helpful when explaining the time span of any job.

Some times it is just fun to make an attractive animated pattern.

By combining a fractal generator with an animation compiler some very interesting effects can be generated

Of course you don’t need a fractal generator to make attractive patterns and animate them.

Most good art packages will allow you to make an abstract image from a normal picture.

In my experience your only limitation is your imagination and your willingness to play

Faces provide a wealth of opportunities for animation.

From a charming way of portraying the wonderful range of facial expressions of your favourite little man.

To a great way to show how a person has changed from their childhood to their better-known appearance.

It is also most satisfying to create logos and banners to be used on websites or in personalised email stationary.

Again the only limitation is your imagination.

I take great pleasure in making this kind of thing for others.

Animation is also most gratifying as way of making ‘Fan Art’  for any show that takes your fancy. I am a fan of the awesome TV show NCIS and many others
